Tourism in Sicily: history, castles and legends

The castle of Punta Troia, Marettimo (Egadi Islands) was built around 827. Before being a castle in 1140 under the rule of Ruggero 2th, was a sighting tower. During the French Revolution it was a prison and during the Second World War was a telegraphic station (now you can see the telegraph pole). At the end of the war the castle was abandoned.

In Sicily there are 3 very beautiful feasts that have received the award for the Italian traditions: the Almond Blossom Festival in Agrigento, the cannolo (a Sicilian pastry with a sweet filling) festival in Piana degli Albanesi (Palermo) and the St. Anastasia’s Day in Motta Sant’Anastasia (Catania).
